Ceremony

When my father passed away I was unable to take part in his funeral due to
personal reasons. Several days later, as I was still struggling with his loss, I
reached a small beautiful town in the northern part of the Netherlands. I decided
to place an ad in the local paper and ask people to come to the city center and
take part in my father’s funeral. And when they did, I sat and watched all the
strangers who had come to my father’s funeral!

I put the camera in place of my father’s eyes so that he too could witness his
own funeral. It was like his eyes experienced the presence of all these strangers
at three different speeds:
1. Normal
2. Fast Motion
3. Slow Motion

In this way I was able to hold a personal ceremony to mark my father’s passing,
the way I liked.
